Ms Sithabiso Masuku 
Consultant Health Economist

Sithabiso Masuku is an actuarial analyst and health economist dedicated to driving tangible improvements in health outcomes. She has 10 years’ experience evaluating the costs and cost-effectiveness of health interventions, particularly in the fields of cancer and child malnutrition. Her cancer research portfolio includes a budget impact analysis that informed the approval of South Africa's first breast cancer control policy in 2017. As a Wellcome Trust Early Career Award Fellow, she currently leads a study evaluating the costs and cost-effectiveness of reducing breast cancer diagnostic and treatment delays in South Africa. Her research on child malnutrition includes producing economic evidence that informed the 2023 updates to the WHO Guidelines for child wasting and nutritional oedema. She is currently conducting an economic evaluation of three interventions for severe acute malnutrition in children that were recommended for the first time in these new WHO guidelines.

Sithabiso is a Research Fellow at the University of Sheffield, and a Visiting Senior Researcher at Health Economics and Epidemiology Research Office, University of the Witwatersrand. She is also a 2023/24 Union of International Cancer Control Young Leader and is dedicated to advancing evidence-based policymaking and cultivating a sustainable research culture to enhance healthcare outcomes in Africa.
