Nyasha Mafirakureva is a health economist specializing in economic evaluation and decision-analytic modelling to inform global health policy, resource allocation, efficiency, equity, and sustainability of healthcare delivery, particularly in low-resource settings and underserved populations. Nyasha has led and contributed to the generation of policy-relevant evidence across infectious diseases, maternal and child health, and osteoporosis-related fractures through cost-effectiveness analysis, health system modelling, and evaluation of complex interventions under real-world constraints. He has contributed to multi-country analyses of viral hepatitis interventions that informed WHO’s 2021–2022 global hepatitis elimination guidelines, supporting policies relevant to an estimated 304 million people living with chronic infection. More recently, he led the economic evaluation of paediatric tuberculosis interventions across multiple sub-Saharan African countries within the UNITAID-funded CaP-TB (Catalyzing Pediatric TB Innovations) project, providing evidence considered in WHO’s 2022 paediatric TB guideline revision consultations. He currently leads research on tuberculosis interventions in the UK, community-based health checks for older adults in Zimbabwe, fragility fracture care pathways in sub-Saharan Africa, and treatment decision algorithms for childhood TB in Africa.

Nyasha Mafirakureva is currently a Senior Research Fellow in Health Economics and Decision Science at the University of Sheffield, UK, and an Honorary Research Fellow in the Musculoskeletal Research Unit at Bristol Medical School, UK.
